The «Jura» Collection
An Important Documentation of Swiss Postal History in the 20th Century
This object, compiled with an enormous expenditure of time and money, covers – in both an exclusive and at the same time representative way – the various collecting areas of Swiss philately from 1907 to our modern times. Especially noteworthy are the many, sometimes spectacular mixed frankings of stamps of the «Standing Helvetia» and «Numeral of Value» designs as well as the many other single, multiple, colored and mixed frankings.
Many of the covers preserved in this object originally were in the former Wegst collection. Carefully selected covers are used to document the sometimes stormy development of Swiss postage rates. Airmail covers, arranged according to the various destinations, are particularly significant. In the 20th century, as in the classical period, the Postal Administration always strived for the improvement and expansion of postal connections.
An exquisite selection of SCADTA covers and fine «Mitläufer» frankings from Liechtenstein round out the comprehensive range of Swiss (aero)philatelic postal history in the 20th century. The qualify of virtually all offered items is far above average; in numerous individual cases it must be rated ‘outstanding’. Within the framework of this collection, several covers with exotic overseas destinations deserve special attention.
